  2. Chapter I
Nick describes himself as someone confide-able and trustful even to strangers. He mentions about his vulnerable background and how his father gave him an advice he lives by. The first thing we learn is that he tries to be non-judgmental. In addition, something important to keep in mind is the reason why Daisy mentioned that she hopes her daughter to be a fool. Perhaps daisy knows about Tom's affair and it hurts her as his wife but she can not do much about it; which is really unfair. On a literal level, the "Valley of Ashes" we are introduced in chapter 2 is the small town that is pretty much ignored or invisible to everyone else. It's a poor town in which a lot of people worked hard being surrounded by pollution but their hard work was not being taken care of consideration. After discussion about it, symbolically it could mean the people who are poor trying hard to achieve their dreams but not being even recognized for them because its not taking them anywhere, in other words, in unreachable goal which is not getting anywhere. After meeting Tom's mistress, I don;t think Tom will ever leave Daisy for Myrtle. First, if he did not care for Daisy, he would have left her already. Secondly, even though they had a daughter, which in that time it seemed to be lesser than having a son, he had a family with Daisy. Lastly, he even lost his temper when Myrtle would not shut up just saying Daisy's name.
Two ways Nick differs from the guests at Gastby's Party is that he is invited and does not have anything dirty on him either in corruption or a story to tell. Nick thinks he's one of the few honest people he knows, because as we are on his mind reading his thoughts, he doesnt hold anything back and shows when he is annoyed. However, he is honest for one thing by not saying much and keeping most of it to himself. He is not lying for one thing so he is honest to others, yet keeping his thought in his own mind. Gastby tells Nick about his Oxford education and his wealthy background which seems made up but at the same time creepily real. I don't want to think that he had anything to do with the 1919 World Series but I feel like he did because somehow he needed help to be as "successful" as he is now if he was poor. It would be rare to be rich really fast and throw gigantic parties frequently.

  3. 1) Nick describes himself as someone that doesn't fit in and he feels very alone because he just moved to a new state.
    2) Daisy says that she hopes that her daughter will be a beautiful fool because society at the time only values beauty on the outside and not the intelligence.
    3) The valley of ashes in a literary level means that it represents poverty and hopelessness.
    4) I think he won't because he sometimes shows that he cares for his wife but he likes having a side as well.
    5) Nick is observing and honest about things that are happening at Gatsby's party.
    6) I think that nick says he is honest because he is always telling us the truth that he knows and he doesn't try to change it up in any way.
    7) Gatsby tells nick that his family is dead and that he now has a lot of money as well as where he got an education.
    8) I think Gatsby didn't help in the 1919 world series but he is quite a smart man.
