Socratic Seminar Pt. 1 Notes: Why is love important and popular?

  • Love is popular in poetry, music, novels, and in themes because love is mysterious
  • One of my classmates today (during our Socratic seminar ) said, "Love is something we grow up having as the moment we are born and heled by our parents"
  •  We love because we want someone for ourselves
  •  Why do we say we love someone but later on we disown that feeling? Do we really need love in our lives?
    •  The love that we disown later in life towards a person turns into lust
    •  We need love in our lives because it's a way for us to grow
      • It's a physiological need like breathing, water, food, etc.
  •  We mistake our feelings and the idea of being in a relationship with someone by not feeling alone
    • Instead of having a genuine connection with the person and growing together as a whole we take it as a way for us to not be lonely  rather than having another person to take too or be comforted by
      • Having a person by our side helps us to grow as an individual, learn to love, care for the person, and be there for them through the good and bad. It's about choosing to be at your best when the other person is not at their best, is when what you want is never important, but what the other person needs and wants rather than it being the other way around.
