As we were reading the story, my first impression was that it's similar to story of Adam and Eve. The snake from both stories are similar to each other by having the same character traits as mean, and evil. They both carry the same traits but are also quietly unique as well. The old mad is welling Goodman Brown that there's a lot of good things about what he has done in the past which nothing will go wrong. The same thing happened to Adam and Eve where the snake told Eve that eating the apple wouldn't lead to something going wrong.
